i'm Carla.
Perhaps you've landed on my page because you saw me in a show, or maybe I've had your kids as students, or maybe you're looking to collaborate. Thank you for your interest in my work, and if you’re looking to collaborate, please fill out my contact form and let's make some magic!
If you're new, I'm a queer, Afro-Latina artist, activist and union leader based in New York City. I'm extremely passionate about racial equity and social change within the performing arts. In addition to my on-stage career, my off-stage work over the past few years has led me to a leadership roles that I’m profoundly proud of, as I’ve been able to focus on creating equitable and inclusive environments within our industry — which is no easy task... but it's the social change for me!
I grew up in dance studios, taking private voice lessons, and performing in school musicals, but I have to acknowledge and express an immense amount of gratitude that those opportunities were solely because of the generosity of others. Every scholarship and grant that has allowed me to get to where I am, has only fueled my commitment to give back to my community and carve a path for other people of color to do the same.
Porque somos más fuertes juntos que separados.
When I'm not onstage, my favorite place to be is anywhere with my sweet pup, Remy. I also love traveling, watching horrible reality television, looking at houses I can't afford on Zillow, and exploring New York City with my friends. I also enjoy taking aerial hoop classes and scouting out really good iced coffee from local shops.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point in my career — if you want the deets, peep the resume! If you ever want to connect, please reach out, and if you’re feeling like giving back today, some of my favorite organizations are listed below.
With gratitude,
Carla
